The Verdict on Budget Audio

I recently picked up the Voulao V8 Bluetooth headphones in black from Temu for just $16, using credits from a refunded purchase. Here’s a breakdown of my experience with them over the past several months.

Initial Impressions

In the first few hours of use, the V8s paired effortlessly with my iPhone, and I was pleased to find the volume controls responsive and easy to use. The sound signature leans towards a softer tone compared to my JBL 510s, but it feels more accurate overall.

  • Type C Charging — Modern standard, matches my other devices.
  • 3.5mm Jack — Allows for wired use if the battery runs low.
  • 80-Hour Battery — An impressive longevity spec for such a budget device.
1-Week & 1-Month Updates

After a week of usage, the V8s really began to shine. They clearly segment music, especially in the mids, which reminded me of the Grado SR80s. While the bass isn’t as punchy as the JBL 510BT, the overall sound quality felt better for my listening preferences.

Tip: I noticed some ear fatigue during longer listening sessions, likely due to the speakers feeling a bit too close to my ears. Thicker ear pads could help improve comfort and alleviate this issue.

A month in, I decided to leave the V8s at the office for music listening, allowing my JBLs to take over outdoor use. The V8s offer better sound than typical earbuds and are less bulky than wired headphones, which has fulfilled my needs nicely.

After seven months, I still find the V8s to be worth every penny of that $16 investment. I primarily use them for watching streaming shows at home and listening to music while keeping my JBLs reserved for office use. Overall, these headphones have proven to be a solid choice for casual listening, providing a great balance of sound quality and convenience.

Final Thoughts

If you’re looking for budget-friendly Bluetooth headphones with decent sound quality and impressive battery life, the Voulao V8s are definitely worth considering. They may not match the performance of high-end models, but they excel in their price range, making them an excellent addition to any casual listener's collection.

A budget-friendly find that proves you don't need to break the bank for reliable everyday audio.

My ZX-100 has lasted over 2½ years, enduring countless tosses into my backpack and car without any issues. However, the lower-end ZX-100 and ZX-110 models have a significant downside: poor-quality earpads.   The Earpad Problem Over time, the earpads on the ZX-100 and ZX-110 disintegrate, leaving vinyl flakes that stick to your hair and ears. The ZX-310 comes with upgraded earpads that don't suffer from this problem — a clear win in the build department. Tip: If your earpads start to flake, it is a sign of material degradation; consider replacing the cushions or upgrading to a model with more durable synthetic lea...
