Audio Technica ATH M50x vs MSR7

Audio-Technica ATH-M50x vs. ATH-MSR7: A Comparative Review Having owned both the Audio-Technica ATH-M50x and ATH-MSR7 headphones for several months now, I wanted to provide a thorough comparison between these two models. While the M50x has achieved legendary status for its value, the MSR7 appears to be a worthy successor. Price: M50x Wins ATH-M50x : MSRP around $169 USD (typically found on Amazon for $130 to $150). ATH-MSR7 : MSRP for $249 USD, but often available for around $200. The M50x offers a more budget-friendly option, making it an attractive choice for those looking for quality without breaking the bank. Sound Quality: MSR7 Wins Both models feature 45mm drivers, but there are notable differences in their specifications: MSR7 Frequency Range: 5 Hz – 40,000 Hz Impedance: 35 Ohm Power Handling: 2,000 mW M50x Frequency Range: 15 Hz – 28,000 Hz Impedance: 38 Ohm Power Handling: 1,600 mW In terms of sound quality, the MSR7s outperform the M50x with a tighter response, improved defin...

Sony MDR-ZX100 vs ZX-110 vs ZX-310 Series Headphones

Sony ZX Series Headphones Review: A Budget-Friendly Sound Choice If you’re on the hunt for budget-friendly headphones with decent quality, the Sony ZX Series is definitely worth considering. I happen to own several models from the lineup: ZX-100 ZX-110 ZX-310 Let’s dive into how they compare in terms of build quality, cost, specs, sound, and overall value. Build Quality: ZX-310 Takes the Lead The Sony ZX series headphones primarily feature a durable plastic construction. My ZX-100 has lasted over 2½ years, enduring countless tosses into my backpack and car without any issues. However, the lower-end ZX-100 and ZX-110 models have a significant downside: poor-quality earpads. Over time, these earpads disintegrate, leaving vinyl flakes that stick to your hair and ears. The ZX-310, on the other hand, comes with upgraded earpads that don’t suffer from this problem, making them a clear winner in the build department. Cost Comparison: ZX-100/110 Wins for Affordability While the ZX-310 model co...

Casio G-Shock 5600 vs 6900 vs 9000

G-Shock Preferences and Favorites After trying out several G-Shock models, I've developed a better sense of the specific features and design elements I appreciate most. While features are always a plus, my main priority is size . Here's how some of the models I've tried stack up. Size Preference: 5600 Series For overall size, the 5600 series stands out as a favorite due to its compact, comfortable form. It’s slim, lightweight, and fits well on my wrist without being too bulky. Although the 6900 series provides the benefit of a well-placed front illumination button, the 5600 remains the ideal size for everyday wear. Best Compromise: 9000 Mudman Series If I had to choose a balanced option between size, comfort, and functionality, the G9000 Mudman series would be it. The buttons are slightly tough to press, but the layout and form factor resonate with what I prefer in a G-Shock. Despite having different module versions (GLX, G, and DW), I find that these models offer the r...

Seiko SSB003 battery replacement SR936SW

Seiko SSB003 Battery Replacement Recently, the battery in my Seiko SSB003 died, prompting me to take action. Here’s a quick overview of the battery replacement process and my observations of the movement. Battery Replacement Process Opening the Case: I carefully popped open the watch to access the battery compartment. Identifying the Battery: The watch required an SR936SW battery, which I was able to find and replace without any issues. Movement Inspection: It was fascinating to see the 6T63A movement inside. While it may not be extravagant, the inner workings of the watch always pique my interest. Movement Features Standard Screwback: The watch features a standard screwback case, which adds to its durability. Battery Locking Mechanism: The battery is secured by a thin metal strip that runs across it. To unlock it, I gently pushed on the part of the metal bar nearest the edge of the case, allowing for easy battery replacement. Overall, the process was straightforward, and it was...

Onigiri - Odachi/Katana Character

Character Build: Odachi/Katana Sword Focus I’ve been experimenting with different character types and have settled on a build centered around the Odachi and Katana swords, prioritizing Power stats. Learning as I go, I’ve made good progress, reaching the Izumo Rest Area after about a week of casual play. Weapon Strategy Odachi for Group Fights The Odachi is a long sword that, while slower than a Katana, offers greater attack power and a wider attack range. This makes it particularly effective for dealing with medium-sized mobs. Its area of effect allows you to hit multiple enemies, which is perfect for crowd control in group encounters. Katana for Surgical Fights On the other hand, the Katana excels in fast-paced, one-on-one situations. It’s ideal for quick boss strikes or duels against single enemies. The Katana's speed allows you to unleash several skills in rapid succession, making it an effective choice for taking down tougher foes quickly. Stat Focus: Affinity for Damag...

Eton Microlink FR160 Radio -- Sticky Residue

Eton Microlink FR160 Handcrank Radio Review I bought an Eton Microlink FR160 handcrank radio for my emergency kit a few years ago, and it’s been great overall. However, there’s one significant issue I've encountered. Sticky Residue Problem Over time, a sticky residue developed on the radio's external surface, which was driving me nuts. At first, I thought there was something wrong with the device. Solution Fortunately, I researched the problem online and discovered that Eton radios are coated with a substance designed to make them easier to grip. Unfortunately, this coating degrades over time and turns into a sticky mess. To resolve the issue, I used isopropyl alcohol and cotton balls to clean most of the gunk. While some paint may have been lost in the process, at least the radio is no longer sticky.

Seiko 5 SNKK35 -- the $ 50 Budget Explorer

A Humble Alternative: Seiko 5 SNKK35 Review The Seiko 5 model SNKK35 offers a compelling alternative to the Rolex Explorer I, providing automatic movement and attractive aesthetics at an incredibly accessible price point. Available for around $50 pre-owned (and under $80 brand new), it’s a remarkable option for those seeking style without breaking the bank. Here’s a closer look at five key aspects of this watch: Movement The SNKK35 features the well-known Seiko 7s26/36 automatic movement. While this reliable movement has been in use for years, it lacks a hacking second hand—meaning you can’t stop the second hand while setting the time. This may be a drawback for some, but many find it a minor inconvenience. The accuracy is typically rated at +20 to +30 seconds per day, although some owners have reported accuracy closer to COSC standards at around +5 to +10 seconds per day. My personal experience with several Seiko 5 models aligns with these expectations. Dial The dial is arguably the h...

Seiko SSB Chronograph Series

Exploring Seiko Watches What is it with Seiko watches? I’m smitten with several models lately! The SSB007 chronograph is stunning and vividly reminds me of my first watch, a humble Guess Chronograph. The Arctura GMT model SUN003 with a black dial is also amazing, showcasing futuristic curves and design. I miss my old Guess Chronograph; while it wasn’t anything special horologically, it holds sentimental value as my first watch. The SSB line looks awfully close, and some are going for $100 brand new on Amazon, making them very affordable!   SSB003 - White Panda To help me decide, I’m listing various models and styles to pick which one is right for me. So far, I like the first few in the series: the 001, 003, 007, or 013. SSB001 - White SSB003 - Silver/black Panda, red seconds SSB005 - Blue SSB007 - Black SSB009 - White, gold TT SSB011 - Black, black bezel, red seconds SSB013 - White/black Panda, red seconds SSB015 - Black (looks identical to 007) SSB017 - White, Roman XII,...
