Review of Chita Whisky
While in Tokyo, I came across a bottle of Suntory Chita Whisky at a local 7-Eleven and couldn’t resist my curiosity. I’m already familiar with Suntory through their Yamazaki Single Malt, one of my longtime favorites—though it has since become everyone else’s favorite too, driving prices up and availability down.
Chita is made from 100% corn, giving it a noticeably sweet profile that leans closer to American bourbons like Maker’s Mark or Wild Turkey. It’s easy to drink, with no real bitterness or harsh burn, making it approachable even for casual whisky drinkers. That said, it lacks the depth and complexity I usually look for when sipping neat.
You can drink it straight, but at its price point, Chita really shines as a mixer. It’s particularly well-suited for a Japanese highball, where its light, sweet character comes through clean and refreshing without trying to be something it’s not.
