Preparing for the iPhone 16: A Quick Comparison with the 14 Pro

With my new iPhone 16 in hand, I wanted to see how it compares to my previous iPhone 14 Pro. I didn’t expect a huge leap, but a few changes stood out.

I. What I Expected

  • A lighter feel
  • Slightly faster performance
  • A possible downgrade in screen quality (based on reviews)

Still, I was happy with the LCD on my iPhone 11—so I’m confident the OLED on the 16 will be more than fine.

II. Why I Chose the iPhone 16 Over the 14 Pro

Although the 14 Pro and 16 are similar on paper, two features made the switch worth it:

  • USB-C charging
  • Noticeably lighter design

I also no longer feel I need the Pro extras—especially not at the higher price.

III. First Impressions: Good, Not Great

After a few days of use, here’s what stands out:

What I Like

  • Lighter, more comfortable to hold
  • No more notch
  • Smooth performance
  • Solid battery life

What I Miss

  • The 120 Hz ProMotion screen
  • The triple-camera setup (but not as much as I thought)

Coming from the 14 Pro, the screen feels like a step back—especially given it's two generations newer. Even Samsung’s budget phones offer high refresh rates now.

Still, the 16 holds its own for everyday use.

IV. Final Thoughts

The iPhone 16 isn’t a major upgrade—but for my needs, it’s a better fit:

  • USB-C is a big win
  • The lighter body improves day-to-day use
  • I don’t miss the Pro features as much as expected

If you’re using a non-Pro iPhone or care about USB-C, the 16 is worth considering. But if you already have a 14 Pro, it might be best to wait.
