I recently wrapped up a two-week vacation, finishing with a weekend in Las Vegas. Overall, my experience was underwhelming, leading me to conclude that Vegas just isn't worth it unless you're prepared to spend at least $500–$1,000 a day on a good hotel, food, and entertainment.

Section I

Trip Summary

  • Total Spent — $1,200 for food, hotel, transportation, and a show
  • Highlights — One amazing Old Fashioned at Alto Bar, a decent magic show
  • Overall Feeling — A lot of wasted money for a mediocre experience
Day 1

Arrival in Vegas

  • Flight LAX → LAS (ANA) — Cool R2D2-themed plane, but all I got was a paper cup.
  • First Meal — LAX Tacos — Decent, especially the carne asada.
  • Golden Nugget — The cheeseburger at the Grille was a pleasant surprise — delicious!
  • Evening — A few beers and catching up with friends.

Day 2

Exploring the Strip

  • Lunch — Loco Moco at the California — Acceptable and reasonably priced.
  • Casinos — Walked Paris, Planet Hollywood, Bellagio; spent most time at Caesar's and Paris.
  • Alto Bar, Caesar's — Old Fashioned — The highlight of the entire trip. Incredible.
  • Bacchanal Buffet — $80 — Decent but not worth it. A $50 experience at best; the prime rib was pathetic.
Observation: The Strip felt busier but fewer people seemed interested in gambling.

Day 3

Breakfast and a Show

  • The Henry, Cosmopolitan — $33 — Eggs and bacon for $33. Regretted it immediately. Mon Ami at Paris was far better.
  • Shin Lim Show, Mirage — Okay show, but SeatGeek charged $100 for tickets worth $50. Ended up in section 103, far right, with a poor view.
  • The Still, Mirage — Old Fashioned — Too sweet. A disappointment after Alto's standard.
  • Dinner — Main Street Pizza & Beer — Decent price, average quality.

Day 4

Departure & Final Thoughts

An early morning departure marked the end of my trip. This will likely be my last personal visit to Vegas. I'll return for business, but the charm seems to have faded.

After five trips, Vegas has lost its magic. For the same money, there are far more interesting places to explore.

Sony MDR-ZX100 vs ZX-110 vs ZX-310 Series Headphones

Gear Review Budget Audio Face-off: Sony ZX Series Review Comparing the ZX-100, ZX-110, and ZX-310 for your everyday carry ~3 Models ~$10–$20 Price 2.5+ Years Longevity Table of Contents ① Build Quality ② Cost Comparison ③ Sound Quality ④ Overall Value ⑤ Upgrade Path Section I Build Quality The Sony ZX series headphones primarily feature a durable plastic construction. My ZX-100 has lasted over 2½ years, enduring countless tosses into my backpack and car without any issues. However, the lower-end ZX-100 and ZX-110 models have a significant downside: poor-quality earpads.   The Earpad Problem Over time, the earpads on the ZX-100 and ZX-110 disintegrate, leaving vinyl flakes that stick to your hair and ears. The ZX-310 comes with upgraded earpads that don't suffer from this problem — a clear win in the build department. Tip: If your earpads start to flake, it is a sign of material degradation; consider replacing the cushions or upgrading to a model with more durable synthetic lea...

Casio G-Shock 5600 vs 6900 vs 9000

While features are always a plus, my main priority is size. Here's how some of the models I've tried stack up. 5600 Series For overall size, the 5600 series stands out as a favorite due to its compact, comfortable form. It's slim, lightweight, and fits well on my wrist without being too bulky. Although the 6900 series provides the benefit of a well-placed front illumination button, the 5600 remains the ideal size for everyday wear.   Section II Best Compromise: G900...
