The Purchase

A Japan-Exclusive Colorway

I picked up a Casio F-91W while in Japan for 2000 Yen (about $14.50 USD). While this watch is quite basic and the black resin version is common and often cheaper in the States, the translucent colorways are unique to the Japanese market and typically sell for double that on Amazon.

I'm not planning to sell it; it serves as an inexpensive souvenir from my time in Japan. While I'm not sure when I'd wear it, especially since my Casio A168 is a more functional option, the price made it an easy choice.

Collection Considerations

Where It Fits

I don't intend to count this watch toward my main collection. Instead, it'll be more of a side piece. I've been thinking about keeping my focus on luxury Swiss watches for my actual collection, given their value and significance.

This aligns with my decision regarding my old Apple Watch Series 2. Since it's dead and now sitting in my junk drawer, I don't count it in my collection either, but I still hold onto it. This allows me to maintain a curated selection of watches that I truly value while also having a few inexpensive mementos from my travels.

Watch Status Notes
Luxury Swiss watches Main collection Curated focus for value and significance
Casio A168 Daily wear More functional option for everyday use
Casio F-91W Side piece / souvenir Japan-exclusive translucent colorway; not counted in main collection
Apple Watch Series 2 Junk drawer Dead; not counted in collection but kept
The translucent colorways are Japan-market exclusives — at ¥2,000 it's an easy call as a travel memento, even if the black resin version back home costs less.

Casio F-91W · Japan · ¥2,000 — a side piece and travel memento, not a collection piece, but a great one to have.

Sony MDR-ZX100 vs ZX-110 vs ZX-310 Series Headphones

Gear Review Budget Audio Face-off: Sony ZX Series Review Comparing the ZX-100, ZX-110, and ZX-310 for your everyday carry ~3 Models ~$10–$20 Price 2.5+ Years Longevity Table of Contents ① Build Quality ② Cost Comparison ③ Sound Quality ④ Overall Value ⑤ Upgrade Path Section I Build Quality The Sony ZX series headphones primarily feature a durable plastic construction. My ZX-100 has lasted over 2½ years, enduring countless tosses into my backpack and car without any issues. However, the lower-end ZX-100 and ZX-110 models have a significant downside: poor-quality earpads.   The Earpad Problem Over time, the earpads on the ZX-100 and ZX-110 disintegrate, leaving vinyl flakes that stick to your hair and ears. The ZX-310 comes with upgraded earpads that don't suffer from this problem — a clear win in the build department. Tip: If your earpads start to flake, it is a sign of material degradation; consider replacing the cushions or upgrading to a model with more durable synthetic lea...

While features are always a plus, my main priority is size. Here's how some of the models I've tried stack up. 5600 Series For overall size, the 5600 series stands out as a favorite due to its compact, comfortable form. It's slim, lightweight, and fits well on my wrist without being too bulky. Although the 6900 series provides the benefit of a well-placed front illumination button, the 5600 remains the ideal size for everyday wear.   Section II Best Compromise: G900...
