The Drive

200 Miles to Austin

About 200 miles one way. In hindsight, I should have left earlier and with a full tank of gas.

I ended up stopping halfway to fill up when the Camry could have easily gone all the way — but a brief 10-minute stop was actually a nice break. Total time on the road was about 5.5 hours, with the gas stop at the 3-hour mark.

Lesson learned fill up the gas tank night before and leave earlier.

Budget

Trip Spend

Category Cost
Hotel $50
Gas $67
Food $50
Parking & Bike $16
Total $183

The hotel would normally have been $150 — saved the difference using Hilton points.

Where I Stayed

Tru by Hilton — Pflugerville

Stayed in Pflugerville at the Tru by Hilton. Decent place — room was small but clean and comfortable.

  • Free breakfast — simple fare: oatmeal, waffles, scrambled eggs. Would have preferred fresh-cut fruit options
  • Unlimited free coffee — genuinely enjoyed this
  • Room — compact but clean and comfortable

The Day

Austin Highlights

River Walk & Bike Ride

The Austin River Walk was something — over 91°F, so could only stand it for an hour or so. Tried a bike ride and that was genuinely fun.

Lunch at De Nada

Mexican food. The Barbacoa was amazing, and their Queso was equally impressive. Easy recommendation.

The Domain & Crepes

The rest of the day was chilling at a bar and looking around The Domain Shopping Center. Also tried the crepes — a little sweet for my taste.

  • River Walk — scenic but brutal heat; worth it for about an hour
  • Bike ride — fun, recommended
  • De Nada — Barbacoa & Queso, highly recommended
  • The Domain — good for an afternoon wander
  • Crepes — too sweet for my taste, skip it

200 miles · $183 · De Nada Barbacoa · keep Austin weird.

Sony MDR-ZX100 vs ZX-110 vs ZX-310 Series Headphones

Gear Review Budget Audio Face-off: Sony ZX Series Review Comparing the ZX-100, ZX-110, and ZX-310 for your everyday carry ~3 Models ~$10–$20 Price 2.5+ Years Longevity Table of Contents ① Build Quality ② Cost Comparison ③ Sound Quality ④ Overall Value ⑤ Upgrade Path Section I Build Quality The Sony ZX series headphones primarily feature a durable plastic construction. My ZX-100 has lasted over 2½ years, enduring countless tosses into my backpack and car without any issues. However, the lower-end ZX-100 and ZX-110 models have a significant downside: poor-quality earpads.   The Earpad Problem Over time, the earpads on the ZX-100 and ZX-110 disintegrate, leaving vinyl flakes that stick to your hair and ears. The ZX-310 comes with upgraded earpads that don't suffer from this problem — a clear win in the build department. Tip: If your earpads start to flake, it is a sign of material degradation; consider replacing the cushions or upgrading to a model with more durable synthetic lea...

While features are always a plus, my main priority is size. Here's how some of the models I've tried stack up. 5600 Series For overall size, the 5600 series stands out as a favorite due to its compact, comfortable form. It's slim, lightweight, and fits well on my wrist without being too bulky. Although the 6900 series provides the benefit of a well-placed front illumination button, the 5600 remains the ideal size for everyday wear.   Section II Best Compromise: G900...
