First Flight with Southwest Airlines
A long-overdue review of the low-cost carrier experience
Taking to the Skies
I recently flew for the first time on Southwest Airlines. Yes, I know—what took me so long? I don’t have a good answer!
Overall, I found Southwest to be very reasonably priced for what they offer. It’s a low fare for a decent seat, complete with a pretty good Wi-Fi entertainment system, and they provide some free drinks and snacks. I got to enjoy free movies and text friends while flying, which was pretty awesome.
- →Wi-Fi Entertainment — A solid system featuring free movies and the ability to text friends while in the air.
- →Snacks and Drinks — Simple offerings that are honestly not half bad compared to economy meals on other carriers.
- →Affordability — High value for the price point, making it a likely choice for future travel.
The Fleet Experience
For my flights, I experienced two different versions of the Boeing 737. While they are similar in many ways, there was a clear winner for passenger comfort.
| Aircraft Model | Key Feature | Personal Verdict |
|---|---|---|
| 737-Max8 | Additional Bathrooms | Preferred |
| 737-700 | Older Configuration | Standard |
I prefer the Max8 for its additional bathrooms, but otherwise, both planes are about the same. I’ll likely fly Southwest again, as it’s so affordable for what they provide.
