The Contenders

When it comes to classic Adidas shoes, the Stan Smith and Superstar are two popular contenders. While both have roots in sports—tennis for the Stan Smith and basketball for the Superstar—they've largely transitioned to fashion staples. Below, I’ll compare and rate these shoes across several categories.

Style & Design
  • Stan Smith — Casual and versatile, it complements most outfits. The clean lines and classic profile pair well with slimmer or regular-cut clothing, making it a great match for shorts.
  • Superstar — The build is chunkier and tends to suit baggier styles, particularly jeans.
Comfort & Performance
  • Superstar — Features a plush inner lining that makes them incredibly comfortable. They broke in quickly, requiring only a day of wear. For longer outings or standing for extended periods, this is the clear choice.
  • Stan Smith — Different story regarding comfort; they are still causing some discomfort after a week, particularly on my right foot.
If you prioritize comfort for all-day wear or standing for extended periods, the Superstar is the superior choice.
Durability & Function

This category is currently a work in progress. My Superstars have lasted nearly two years, but they’ve recently developed a hole. The thick leather of the Stan Smith suggests it could match or exceed that lifespan, but I’ll need more time to see how they hold up. While neither shoe is truly suited for their original athletic roots anymore, the Stan Smith excels at maintaining a classic aesthetic in modern casual settings.

Overall Verdict

Ultimately, I see these shoes as strictly fashion items. While I have enjoyed and owned more pairs of Superstars, which speaks to their comfort and versatility, my preference is shifting. As I lean more towards the classic profile of the Stan Smith, I find less of a need for the adaptability of the Superstar. However, if comfort becomes a higher priority in the future, I may find myself reaching for the Superstars again.

Both the Stan Smith and Superstar have their strengths, and your choice may ultimately depend on your style preferences and comfort needs. Each shoe has its own unique charm, making them both worth considering in a casual footwear rotation.

Choose your silhouette based on your daily wardrobe and comfort requirements.

Sony MDR-ZX100 vs ZX-110 vs ZX-310 Series Headphones

Gear Review Budget Audio Face-off: Sony ZX Series Review Comparing the ZX-100, ZX-110, and ZX-310 for your everyday carry ~3 Models ~$10–$20 Price 2.5+ Years Longevity Table of Contents ① Build Quality ② Cost Comparison ③ Sound Quality ④ Overall Value ⑤ Upgrade Path Section I Build Quality The Sony ZX series headphones primarily feature a durable plastic construction. My ZX-100 has lasted over 2½ years, enduring countless tosses into my backpack and car without any issues. However, the lower-end ZX-100 and ZX-110 models have a significant downside: poor-quality earpads.   The Earpad Problem Over time, the earpads on the ZX-100 and ZX-110 disintegrate, leaving vinyl flakes that stick to your hair and ears. The ZX-310 comes with upgraded earpads that don't suffer from this problem — a clear win in the build department. Tip: If your earpads start to flake, it is a sign of material degradation; consider replacing the cushions or upgrading to a model with more durable synthetic lea...

While features are always a plus, my main priority is size. Here's how some of the models I've tried stack up. 5600 Series For overall size, the 5600 series stands out as a favorite due to its compact, comfortable form. It's slim, lightweight, and fits well on my wrist without being too bulky. Although the 6900 series provides the benefit of a well-placed front illumination button, the 5600 remains the ideal size for everyday wear.   Section II Best Compromise: G900...
