Overall Impressions

The Apple AirPods have been around for several years, and I'm currently using the 1st Generation model, which I acquired about five months ago in December 2018. Overall, I've found them to be a convenient addition to my tech collection.

The Good
  • Battery Life — The battery life is impressive; I can get about 8 hours of listening time daily, and they last me several days without needing a recharge.
  • Ease of Use — They sync effortlessly with my iPhone and other Apple devices, which enhances the overall user experience.
  • Build Quality — Like most Apple products, the AirPods are well made and designed to integrate seamlessly with the Apple ecosystem.
The Average
  • Sound Quality — While the sound quality is decent for casual listening, they don't compare to wired headphones. Even the standard wired Apple Earbuds provide a better sound experience.
  • Form Factor — The compact case makes them highly portable, but the lack of a way to latch them onto anything makes me anxious about losing them. I purchased a case with a keyring, but it turned out to be too bulky when attached to my keys.
Tip: If you are worried about losing your charging case, be cautious with third-party keyring accessories, as they can add significant, unwanted bulk to your pocket.

Closing Thoughts

If you own multiple Apple products, a pair of Bluetooth headphones like the AirPods is a great choice. The retail price of $159 is a bit steep, but I hope future generations will see previous models drop in price. If I could snag them for around $99, that would be an excellent value. Overall, while there are some drawbacks, the convenience and ease of use make the AirPods a worthwhile investment for Apple users.

Five months in, the convenience of the 1st Gen AirPods continues to outweigh the minor gripes regarding sound and portability.

Sony MDR-ZX100 vs ZX-110 vs ZX-310 Series Headphones

Gear Review Budget Audio Face-off: Sony ZX Series Review Comparing the ZX-100, ZX-110, and ZX-310 for your everyday carry ~3 Models ~$10–$20 Price 2.5+ Years Longevity Table of Contents ① Build Quality ② Cost Comparison ③ Sound Quality ④ Overall Value ⑤ Upgrade Path Section I Build Quality The Sony ZX series headphones primarily feature a durable plastic construction. My ZX-100 has lasted over 2½ years, enduring countless tosses into my backpack and car without any issues. However, the lower-end ZX-100 and ZX-110 models have a significant downside: poor-quality earpads.   The Earpad Problem Over time, the earpads on the ZX-100 and ZX-110 disintegrate, leaving vinyl flakes that stick to your hair and ears. The ZX-310 comes with upgraded earpads that don't suffer from this problem — a clear win in the build department. Tip: If your earpads start to flake, it is a sign of material degradation; consider replacing the cushions or upgrading to a model with more durable synthetic lea...

Casio G-Shock 5600 vs 6900 vs 9000

While features are always a plus, my main priority is size. Here's how some of the models I've tried stack up. 5600 Series For overall size, the 5600 series stands out as a favorite due to its compact, comfortable form. It's slim, lightweight, and fits well on my wrist without being too bulky. Although the 6900 series provides the benefit of a well-placed front illumination button, the 5600 remains the ideal size for everyday wear.   Section II Best Compromise: G900...
