Why I Went Back
I needed something to take a break from my studies, something to zone out with for an hour without it asking much of me. I paid $40 for the expansion set and gave Diablo 3 a try.
So far it has been what I wanted. Once you learn the basics and start understanding specific character builds, it gets properly fun.
Section II
Old Game, Still Good
Yes, it is a 2012 title, which makes it 14 years old. It still plays great.
There is something about these older games that newer titles just lack. I can't fully explain it, but I notice it every time I log in.
Section III
Necromancer First, Demon Hunter Forever
I started with a Necromancer on the Trag / Death Nova build. It was the easiest route to level 70 and to start collecting gear. I also tried to get my head around an AoV Crusader, with less success so far.
The Demon Hunter is my favorite character yet, on either UE or GoD builds. Gearing up took a while, but once I had a complete UE set I could farm GoD and everything else quickly.
BY THE NUMBERS
Necromancer vs. Demon Hunter
Same Greater Rift tier, two very different paces.
| Specification | Necromancer | Demon Hunter |
|---|---|---|
| Trag / Death Nova | UE / GoD | |
| PERFORMANCE | ||
| GR100+ clear time | About 3-4 minutes | Under 2 minutes ↑ |
Section IV
The Verdict So Far
The Necromancer is good, but I found it a bit boring and slow, taking about 3-4 minutes to clear GR100+. The Demon Hunter does it in under 2.
Farming is easier too. Simple T16 bounty runs often yield portals that lead to plenty of gems, gear and more.
