Performance and Setup

I'm glad I decided to invest in a USB charging station, specifically the Hometall 5-port USB charging station from Amazon. It has proven to be incredibly convenient to have a single location for charging all my devices, especially since I have over half a dozen gadgets plus an Apple Watch.

Benefits of the Hometall Charging Station

### Organized Charging Having all my devices in one place, with the right-length cables, has made a noticeable difference. It’s much easier to keep everything organized, especially with the various devices I use daily.

### Power Output From what I gathered, the Hometall station does not support Qualcomm Quick Charge (QC) 3.0. The output is labeled at 5 volts and 2.4 amps, which calculates to 12 watts. The maximum capacity of 50 watts indicates how much power can be shared among multiple devices, likely reducing to about 8-10 watts per port when charging several devices at once.

### Testing Fast Charging I tested the station with my Samsung S8+, which supports fast charging. Unfortunately, the fast charge indicator did not activate when connected to the Hometall, confirming my suspicion that it doesn’t support QC 2.0 or QC 3.0 capabilities. For comparison, my Samsung adapter generates at least 15 watts (9 volts x 1.67 amps).

The station has a built-in blue light with an on/off switch. Initially, I thought it controlled the entire charger, but it only turns the light off. While the light looks cool, it can be quite distracting at night.

User Experience and Durability

Charging Performance

While it works as intended, I've noticed that non-standard Lightning cables often require careful alignment to charge properly. This is typical for third-party cables, and sometimes I need to unlock the device for it to recognize the connection.

Durability Concerns

Some reviews on Amazon mention that the charging station may eventually stop functioning. I’ll keep an eye on this as I continue using it. For now, it meets my needs and is safely stored.

Future Considerations
  • Potential Buyers Remorse — In hindsight, I should have done more research. It seems the Hometall may not deliver on its QC 3.0 claims, and I could have opted for a more reputable brand like Anker, which is known for reliable charging stations that support true quick charging at a similar price point.

Long-Term Update: 9/5/21

It's been almost a year since I bought the Hometall station, and it's still working well! I’ve noticed that limiting it to 1-2 devices at a time allows it to charge efficiently at reasonable speeds. Its main value for me has been in cable management, as it keeps my charging setup neat and organized.

### Conclusion Overall, I’m quite happy with my USB charging station, despite the initial concerns. It serves its purpose well, and I hope it continues to perform reliably. If I do need to replace it in the future, I’ll definitely consider an Anker model instead.

My ZX-100 has lasted over 2½ years, enduring countless tosses into my backpack and car without any issues. However, the lower-end ZX-100 and ZX-110 models have a significant downside: poor-quality earpads.   The Earpad Problem Over time, the earpads on the ZX-100 and ZX-110 disintegrate, leaving vinyl flakes that stick to your hair and ears. The ZX-310 comes with upgraded earpads that don't suffer from this problem — a clear win in the build department. Tip: If your earpads start to flake, it is a sign of material degradation; consider replacing the cushions or upgrading to a model with more durable synthetic lea...
