Quick Review of the SanDisk CZ48 USB 3.0 Ultra Flash Drives

I recently purchased two 32GB SanDisk CZ48 USB 3.0 Ultra Flash Drives for $17 each on Amazon. If I had acted a bit sooner, I might have snagged them for $14.99 each, but that’s hindsight for you. Here’s a breakdown of my experience with one of these drives, particularly during large file transfers.

Section I

Performance

Read/Write Speeds
  • Read Speed — 75 MB/second
  • Write Speed — 25 MB/second

SanDisk clearly states that the CZ48 drives are optimized for read speed. The write speed of 25 MB/second is decent, especially compared to the 4-10 MB/second speeds I typically got with USB 2.0 drives. Given that these drives are priced similarly to USB 2.0 Cruzer Glides of the same capacity, opting for the CZ48 Ultra is a no-brainer. However, if you require faster write speeds, I recommend looking into the Extreme CZ80 or Extreme Pro CZ88 models.

Section II

Pros

  • Decent Read Speed — The read speeds are impressive for the price point.
  • Good Price — Comparable to USB 2.0 drives, making it a worthwhile upgrade.
  • Lightweight — Weighs less than an ounce, making it easy to carry.
  • 5-Year Warranty — A solid warranty for peace of mind.
Section III

Cons

  • Not Compact — Relatively larger compared to other USB flash drives.
  • Plastic Build — A personal preference for a premium feel; a metal housing would enhance durability.
  • Weak Plastic Adapter — The plastic is prone to snapping, particularly at the point where a lanyard or keyring connects. A metal o-ring would have mitigated this weakness.
  • Finicky USB Connector Button — Requires a firm grip to properly expose the USB connector, which can be a bit frustrating.
Section IV

Conclusion

Overall, the SanDisk CZ48 USB 3.0 Ultra Flash Drive offers a good balance of performance and price, especially for read speeds. While there are some drawbacks, such as the build quality and write speeds, it's still a solid option for everyday use. If you’re looking for a reliable USB drive for transferring large files without breaking the bank, this is definitely worth considering.

Happy transferring!

My ZX-100 has lasted over 2½ years, enduring countless tosses into my backpack and car without any issues. However, the lower-end ZX-100 and ZX-110 models have a significant downside: poor-quality earpads.   The Earpad Problem Over time, the earpads on the ZX-100 and ZX-110 disintegrate, leaving vinyl flakes that stick to your hair and ears. The ZX-310 comes with upgraded earpads that don't suffer from this problem — a clear win in the build department. Tip: If your earpads start to flake, it is a sign of material degradation; consider replacing the cushions or upgrading to a model with more durable synthetic lea...

While features are always a plus, my main priority is size. Here's how some of the models I've tried stack up. 5600 Series For overall size, the 5600 series stands out as a favorite due to its compact, comfortable form. It's slim, lightweight, and fits well on my wrist without being too bulky.
