The Allure of a Dream Watch

The Breguet 5907 is definitely one of my dream watches. However, I'm often torn between that and the allure of owning a Patek Philippe. While the world seems to view Patek as the pinnacle of watchmaking and considers Breguet a high-end brand—just not quite in the same league—the reality is that a pre-owned 5907 costs about $10,000, which means it won’t be in my collection anytime soon.

Section II

Considering a Homage

As a more practical solution, I've been looking at homage watches rather than outright replicas or knockoffs. The best option I’ve found is the Rotary GS02424. Although it resembles the Breguet 5920 more closely due to its date complication, it still carries enough of the Breguet essence for me to be interested. Plus, with a price tag under $150, it's a reasonable deal.

Fun fact: The Rotary GS02424 is the same watch that Benedict Cumberbatch wears in the Sherlock Holmes series, and many people have confused it with a Breguet. My intention is not to pass it off as the real deal but to try out the style and determine if I would actually be willing to spend $10,000 on the genuine article.
Section III

Other Alternatives

I’ve also discovered four other brands that offer models aesthetically similar to the Breguet 5907:

  • Wittenauer — Discontinued
  • Certina Kurth Freyes — Discontinued (same parent company as Breguet, Swatch)
  • Frederique Constant — Slimline series
  • Raymond Weil — Maestro series

I would definitely consider a Certina, but they seem to be quite hard to find and typically retail at double the price of the Rotary.

Section IV

Reflection

On a side note, I used to have a strong desire for a Rolex GMT, but my interest has waned. I realize this could also happen with the Breguet. This serves as a reminder of my impulsiveness; as long as I can recognize it and refrain from acting on it, I'm doing okay. For now, I’ll keep hunting for a good deal on a Rotary or another alternative that catches my eye.

Happy hunting for your horological dreams!

Sony MDR-ZX100 vs ZX-110 vs ZX-310 Series Headphones

Gear Review Budget Audio Face-off: Sony ZX Series Review Comparing the ZX-100, ZX-110, and ZX-310 for your everyday carry ~3 Models ~$10–$20 Price 2.5+ Years Longevity Table of Contents ① Build Quality ② Cost Comparison ③ Sound Quality ④ Overall Value ⑤ Upgrade Path Section I Build Quality The Sony ZX series headphones primarily feature a durable plastic construction. My ZX-100 has lasted over 2½ years, enduring countless tosses into my backpack and car without any issues. However, the lower-end ZX-100 and ZX-110 models have a significant downside: poor-quality earpads.   The Earpad Problem Over time, the earpads on the ZX-100 and ZX-110 disintegrate, leaving vinyl flakes that stick to your hair and ears. The ZX-310 comes with upgraded earpads that don't suffer from this problem — a clear win in the build department. Tip: If your earpads start to flake, it is a sign of material degradation; consider replacing the cushions or upgrading to a model with more durable synthetic lea...

While features are always a plus, my main priority is size. Here's how some of the models I've tried stack up. 5600 Series For overall size, the 5600 series stands out as a favorite due to its compact, comfortable form. It's slim, lightweight, and fits well on my wrist without being too bulky. Although the 6900 series provides the benefit of a well-placed front illumination button, the 5600 remains the ideal size for everyday wear.   Section II Best Compromise: G900...
