Reflecting on My Watch Collection Journey
*A thoughtful look at the curation process, current staples, and future horological aspirations.*
The Current Collection
As I take stock of my current watch collection, I feel a sense of satisfaction with what I have assembled so far. While I may not own a traditional dress watch, I find that the Rolex Explorer serves me well in formal settings, and the Armani Chronograph can step in if needed. I’m considering swapping the Armani’s metal bracelet for a tan brown leather strap to enhance its versatility.
Determining how many watches are "enough" for my collection has been a tiring yet rewarding process. While some might view this as a trivial exercise, for me, analyzing my motivations and justifications behind each piece has been invaluable. This practice not only informs my watch-related decisions but also prepares me for larger life choices. Any future acquisition will require the thoughtful consideration of replacing an existing watch in my collection.
Future Aspirations
Looking ahead, I had considered the Hamilton Navy Pioneer, but I’m now leaning toward the Jaeger-LeCoultre (JLC) Ultra Thin as a more refined addition.
In the long run, I envision a collection that leans heavily on Swiss craftsmanship. My plan includes removing the Armani Chronograph and Casio Diver, making room for a Breguet Type XX and the JLC Ultra Thin. This shift would create a clean, Swiss-only set, with my Casio G-Shocks remaining as my economy watches.
I’ve also contemplated selling my Omega Seamaster to either replace it with a Speedmaster Professional or make the Speedy Pro a substitute for the Breguet. As a wildcard, I’ve had my eye on a Tag Heuer Monaco or even a Cartier Tank Anglaise.
| Watch Brand | Model | Intended Status |
|---|---|---|
| Rolex | Explorer | Core/Dress |
| Breguet | Type XX | Target Acquisition |
| Jaeger-LeCoultre | Ultra Thin | Target Acquisition |
| Omega | Seamaster | Potential Sell/Trade |
Patience is Key
Ultimately, I’ve come to appreciate that waiting and exercising patience in my collecting journey is essential.
